Calling Out Carceral Feminisms: Women of Color Respond to Gender-based and State Violence
This talk will discuss what is referred to as “carceral feminism,” that is, mainstream feminists reliance upon neoliberal individualized and criminalizing strategies to address gender-based violence. Dr. Kim will discuss the history of this phenomenon, contemporary critiques of carceral feminism, and the decolonizing frameworks for addressing the intersections of gender-based violence and state violence proffered by the emerging people of color/LGBT led movements in the US.
