MSU Jobs Fair (virtual) – thousands of on campus jobs

MSU Jobs Fair (virtual) – thousands of on campus jobs

>> STUDENT REGISTRATION OPENS 6/9/2021 <<

Date: Wednesday, June 23, 2021

Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. EST

Location: Virtual, utilizing Handshake (You must use Firefox or Chrome as your browser)

What is this fair? This one is all about helping you find opportunities for student jobs and internships with MSU departments. Since on campus activities were very limited for the past year, MSU departments did not employ very many students. Plans for Fall semester for a return to campus are under way and many MSU departments will need to hire/re-hire students! (Did you know that pre-Pandemic, MSU typically issued paychecks to more than 17,000 a year?)

This new jobs fair will include thousands of student work opportunities with the Residential & Hospitality Services departments along with a handful of other popular on-campus student employers:

·      Forest Akers golf courses (for summer/fall work!)

·      Sparty’s and Starbucks (on campus retail)

·      Residential Housing support staff (opportunities in residence halls/MSU apartments)

·      Culinary Services (dining halls and food services across campus)

·      Kellogg Conference Center and Hotel

·      Breslin Center (concessions and more)

·      MSU Union (operations, restaurants, retail)

·      University Activities Board

·      Recreation Sports & Fitness (IM building operations)

·      Impact 89FM (student run radio station)

·      Libraries (participation to be determined)

More MSU departments may join this student jobs fair, so check back often to sign up for more Sessions with employers!

Where is the fair? The fair is held virtually from within Handshake. Use Firefox or Chrome.

Who can attend? The event is open to all MSU students, across all majors.

How do I participate in the event? Register to attend the fair on Handshake, and then sign up for 1:1 and group sessions with the employers you’d like to meet with. On the day of the fair, simply log into Handshake, navigate to the fair page, and click on the My Sessions tab to start your meetings. Make sure you are using Google Chrome. Check out Handshakes guide to learn about finding opportunities, signing up and system requirements.

How can I prepare? Research the MSU departments participating. Know what kinds of opportunities they offer and review their website. Prepare questions for them, and review your qualifications so that you are prepared to talk about past experiences and how they would relate to the duties you’d perform in the job. Virtual Dress Code: Even though this is a virtual event, it is appropriate to be dressed “up” for the event. A suit and tie are definitely too much, a polo shirt, sweater, blouse, etc. would be appropriate.
