Israeli filmmaker and Serling Visiting Israeli Scholar Dr. Yael Katzir will discuss the screening of her documentary film Shores of Light. Shores of Light tells the true story of poor Italians in southern Italy welcoming thousands of Jewish displaced persons, WWII Holocaust survivors on their way to Israel. The film is also about the journey of three Israeli women born in Italy at that time, children of Jewish refugees. They have returned to the place of their birth in search of the people that were so important in their parents’ lives. Rare, historic photos and video clips intertwine history and the present. A discussion of the film led by Yael Katzir will follow the screening. Dr. Katzir is an accomplished Israeli documentary filmmaker and former Chair of the History Department and Lecturer in the Film Department of the Art School of Beit Berl Academic College.
