Eco-craft Community Action Workshop @ Broad Art Lab | East Lansing | Michigan | United States

Evidence of our society’s dependence on plastic is found everywhere: frozen in sea ice in the Arctic Ocean, 36,000 feet below sea level in the Mariana Trench, and littered in our neighborhoods. Plastic bags are a major contributor to the problem and have become a symbol of the fight against excessive consumption. The average person will use more than 300 plastic bags in a year, and each one will only be in use for about 12 minutes. Join students, faculty, and staff from Surplus Store & Recycling, Community Sustainability, and Art, Art History, and Design for a day of eco-conscious crafting designed to encourage repurposed discarded plastics in each of our hands-on making stations. Add your creative voice to collaborative artworks made entirely from repurposed plastics, join conversations about consumption in our plastic knitting circle, and make your own plastic art to take home. Participants who donate plastic bags to this art cause will receive a special reusable box or bag made from recycled vinyl.

The Eco-Craft Community Action Workshop is part of the Community Open Call, an experimental platform that invites the community to become a central figure in the planning process for the arts and cultural programming offered at the MSU Broad Art Lab. This initiative is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.

Held at the Art Lab, located directly across the street from the museum at 565 E Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823.
