Leveraging Wikipedia and Libraries as Tools of Inclusion and Visibility: Librarians, Drag Queens and the LGBTQ+ Community of Québec

Often seen as a passive and mysterious role on university campuses, librarians are some of the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) leaders in professional circles. In 1970, the American Library Association was the very first professional association to commission a task force on gay peoples, the Task Force on Gay Liberation, to looking at how libraries should be meeting the information needs of gay peoples. In this very same avant-garde spirit, my presentation will talk about how as an academic librarian, I have been using Wikimedia Projects (Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata) and library collections as tools to give visibility to our LGBTQ+ community of Québec.
