Pat O'Donnell Retirement @ MSU Union Lake Huron Room

Dear all:  Please join us on Friday, October 26th for a special day of celebration to honor the distinguished career of Dr. Patrick O’Donnell, Professor Emeritus of English at Michigan State University. The event will be held at the MSU Union, Lake Huron room, from 11am-5pm, and with a reception to follow at Beggar’s Banquet. All are welcome! More details on the program and reception will be coming in the next week. An internationally renowned scholar of modern and contemporary American fiction, Patrick O’Donnell chaired the Department of English from 1997-2007, and again from 2012-14. Pat will be joined by current and former colleagues and students, who will pay tribute to his roles as a scholar, teacher, Chair, mentor and friend. In honor of Pat’s scholarly contributions to American fiction, the celebrated contemporary writer Ben Marcus will join us to read from his new short story collection, Notes from the Fog (Knopf, 2018). Dr. O’Donnell is the author and editor of more than a dozen books, including Latent Destinies: Cultural Paranoia and Contemporary U.S. Narrative (Duke 2000), The American Novel Now: Reading Contemporary Fiction Since 1980 (Wiley-Blackwell, 2010), and most recently, A Temporary Future: The Fiction of David Mitchell (Bloomsbury 2015). He is currently finishing a new book titled Seeing James Seeing: Henry James through Contemporary Film. Lunch will be served from noon-1. RSVP to nieland@msu.edu by October 10.
