Please come prepared to engage in group discussions and reflective writing prompts. Undergraduate students at all levels are welcome. This workshop is intended for students planning on applying for prestigious awards in the future.

In this workshop you will:

•    learn about the landscape of public service careers;

•    discuss issues you and your fellow students are passionate about;

•    consider potential career path(s); and

•    work out next steps for how you will have impact

Dayne Walling is owner and manager of 21Performance (www.21performance.com), a policy and management consulting company built on his professional experience as a public executive and social entrepreneur. He served two terms as the Mayor of the City of Flint and under his leadership the city adopted its first comprehensive master plan in more than 50 years and developed collaborative initiatives in public safety, infrastructure, development and volunteerism. Before serving in elected office, Walling worked in the nonprofit and public sectors in Washington, DC and Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN and he created a community alumni network called Flint Club for his hometown. Dayne has served on the Michigan Community Service Commission, the Executive Committee of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and as the chairperson of the national Manufacturing Alliance of Communities. He holds degrees in social relations, modern history, and urban affairs and is completing doctoral work in geography. Dayne was a Rhodes and Truman scholar from Michigan State University, an Aspen Rodel fellow and is an AmeriCorps alum.
