Opening just in time for the East Lansing Art Festival, Nowhere, presents a solo exhibition featuring the sculptures of Matthew Boonstra, on view until June 20, 2017 at the MSU Union Art Gallery.
Boonstra utilizes his studio practice to explore his interest in materials, processes, and concepts in a free associative manner. These investigations are developed in an autobiographical context concerning his role in contemporary life. His recent series, Nowhere, was developed to explore feelings of living in rural central Illinois. The investment of making has helped him to internalize thoughts and then in turn externalize his feelings. Through his work, he hopes to lead the viewer to question the nature of the object, and how and why it exists.
