Running Start: Finding a Niche in a Crowded Market

Thinking about how to find your niche in a market where competition feels fierce sometimes? Join Harlem Quartet for an honest conversation about how to start articulating your own personal mission, discover your niche, and let that inform your career without boxing yourself in and staying true to why you love music.

New York-based Harlem Quartet has been praised for its “panache” by The New York Times and hailed in the Cincinnati Enquirer for “bringing a new attitude to classical music, one that is fresh, bracing and intelligent.” It has also won plaudits from such veteran musicians as GRAMMY-winning woodwind virtuoso Ted Nash of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, who declared in a May 2018 Playbill article, “Harlem Quartet is one of the greatest string quartets I have ever heard. They can play anything.” Since its public debut at Carnegie Hall in 2006, the ensemble has thrilled audiences and students in 47 states as well as in the U.K., France, Belgium, Brazil, Panama, Canada, Venezuela, Japan, Ethiopia, and South Africa.

MSU students and recent graduates are invited to this Fulbright information session, which will be presented by MSU’s Fulbright Program Advisor, Joy Campbell. Participants will learn about the English Teaching Assistant, Open Study, and Research grants offered by IIE. The presenter will give an overview of the programs, discuss eligibility and benefits, then cover the various application requirements. Information specifically for students studying, majoring in, and minoring in world languages will also be shared, including special Fulbright opportunities for those proficient in foreign languages.

The session will be a Zoom meeting, as opposed to a webinar, so there will be opportunities for interaction and ample time for Q&A.
