Grand River @ MSU Union Art Gallery | East Lansing | Michigan | United States

Our next exhibition at the MSU Union Art Gallery, Grand River, a solo exhibition featuring the work of Jeffery Evergreen. Evergreen recieved his MFA in Print Media from Cranbrook in 2014 and  BFA from Michigan State University in 2004 with a concentration in Painting & Sculpture.

The circulation, remediation, and recombination of images is the current focus of Evergreen’s arts practice. He uses a combination of digital and print processes to deconstruct contemporary images and draw attention to the materials and processes used and invite viewers to reconsider their personal relationship with images, technology, and mass media. But rather than offering some ideologically over-simplified answer, he prefers that larger questions about meaning and cultural value persist, coming to the fore to initiate conversations in which a more broad and balanced understanding may be achieved.

2/15 Waiting For Guffman (Christopher Guest, 1996)

Presented by Dan Smith

This mockumentary follows the irrepressible Corky St. Clair as he writes and directs a musical extravaganza for the sesquicentennial of Blaine, Missouri. When he invites a New York agent to scout the show for a potential Broadway run, will the community rise to the occasion? Quirky characters tread on the edge of success and failure in a film at the edge of comedy and documentary, combining scripted and improvisational techniques.

The Big Lebowski (Joel and Ethan Coen, 1998)

Presented by Justus Nieland

Jeff Bridges plays Jeff Lebowski who insists on being called “the Dude,” a laid-back, easygoing burnout who happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money — resulting in the Dude having his rug soiled, sending him spiraling into the Los Angeles underworld.

SOMETIMES BLUEBIRD

June 2 – July 15, 2018
Reception Friday, June 1, 2018 6–8pm

Sometimes Bluebird featuring the work of Marcos Valella, Britta Urness, and Jacquelynn Sullivan. This special exhibition is organized by Britta Urness. Sometimes Bluebird brings the work of three artists together to discover new layers of abstraction, the relationship between humans and experience, and what can materialize as an object – as an artwork – or appear as an activity. All three artists lean on differing subject matter (permanence, action, memory, communication, the self) and the resulting installations can be read as both ephemeral or long-lasting.

DRAWN TO PRINT

A national juried exhibition of drawning and printmaking and everything inbetween.

July 27 – August 31, 2018

Reception July 27, 6-8PM

This exhibition is the result of a national call and features works on paper that explore the ways in which the diverse and inclusive mediums of drawing and printmaking converge and are completely separate.

The path followed by a brayer can begin with a pencil, a mouse, a cut, or a maybe a stencil. There is no limit to the ideas that can be explored through drawing or printmaking. The presence of the artist in these processes can be at the forefront or separated by many layers of information. Surfaces can be additive or subtractive. Lines and forms can be ink, paint, graphite, thread, a cut or a tear. The work in this exhibition meets with the act of one material being pulled across the surface of another.

But never doubt I love.
Hamlet

Comets, importing change of times and states,
Brandish your crystal tresses in the sky,

And with them scourge the bad revolting stars.

Observe degree, priority, and place,
Insisture, course, proportion, season, form,
Office, and custom, in all line of order.
