This is a monthly gathering for graduate students who are doing or interested in digital humanities. Anyone is welcome to join once or regularly. We will start with one grad student sharing informally about their work, whether in the classroom or in research. After about 15 minutes, then the rest of the time will be left to the group to share their work, discuss recent or upcoming conferences, and/or talk about the field and MSU DH generally.
There will be soda and sandwiches provided. This gathering is meant to be informal, so even if you can only stop by for a few minutes, feel free to do so!

After about 10 minutes, then the rest of the time will be left to the group to share their interests and work, and/or talk about the field and MSU DH generally.

Join CAL, CeLTA Staff, and the CeLTA Director Search Committee for a “CeLTA Vision Talk” from Dr. Felix Kronenberg, Associate Professor, Modern Languages and Literatures, Director of the Language Learning Center, Rhodes College, Memphis Tennessee.
After the Vision Talk, there will be a reception with light refreshments, during which time you can meet with Dr. Kronenberg and ask questions about his potential directorship, teaching, and research at MSU.
Join CAL, CeLTA Staff, and the CeLTA Director Search Committee for a research talk by Dr. Alejandro Cuza-Blanco, Professor of Spanish and Linguistics, Director of Linguistics, and Director of the Heritage Language Program in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, Purdue University.

All new SLS Ph.D. students: Orientation is 8/23/2018 at 9:30 AM in B243 in Wells Hall, with the lunch at noon in the Atrium. All SLS Faculty will join the meeting at 11 AM. Returning students: Please join the new students and all faculty at noon in the Wells Hall 2nd floor Atrium for lunch, and also from 1 to 2 PM in B243 for a mixer. A potluck is to follow in the evening at Shawn’s house; new students do not have to bring anything. Directions to Shawn’s house will be given out at the orientation, as well as info on ride sharing to get there. See you all in August!

Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Titus Kaphar lives and works on the east coast. Kaphar’s
mixed media work, speaks to the most vital discussions happening around race,
diversity, and reconciliation in the U.S. Kaphar exposes how all depictions, no matter
how personal or grandiose, are always fictional, imperfect, and capable of being
remade. He is the distinguished recipient of the Gwendolyn Knight and Jacob Lawrence
Fellowship as well as the 2015 Creative Capital Award and 2016 Rauschenberg Artist
as Activist Fellowship.

The primary activity at this event will be low-stakes, open house-style Table Presentations with “lightning talks” focusing specifically on Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and ed tech tools and practices more generally. MSU’s Center for Language Training and Advancement (CeLTA) and hosts Adam Gacs (German) and Shannon Spasova (Russian) will also facilitate several presentations that will be broadcast and recorded for online participants.
