World Expo Information Session

World Expo Information Session

World Expo is the oldest and largest global event that celebrates world cultures, friendship, and human excellence. Due to Covid-19, the event is postponed and will be held next year from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Nearly 200 countries will participate in this event. The Department of State is in charge of the U.S. Pavilion and they are looking for applications for Youth Ambassadors and Cultural Performers who will represent cultural richness and diversity of America.

We really appreciate if you help us promote this great opportunity to your students. All travel expenses will be paid and Youth Ambassadors will receive stipend. We are organizing a virtual information session on Friday, October 30 at 3 pm. Please join us if you are interested and encourage your students to attend to find more about this great opportunity!

The Day After: Moving Forward Post Election

This program will explore and examine the potential outcomes and impact of the 2020 United States national election. The first part of our program will focus on a panel of scholars from a variety of disciplines and focus areas. Our panelists will help attendees better understand the outcome of the election and provide strategies to help the MSU community move forward. After the panel discussion, we will provide a space for attendees to participate in a dialogue based on their individual and shared experiences. This program is open to all MSU students, staff, specialists, and faculty.

There are a variety of summer opportunities available for students. Programs are hosted by colleges and universities around the United States and the world. They provide an intensive research experience on a particular topic within a scholarly discipline. For undergraduates with plans for graduate or professional school after MSU, summer research provides the opportunity to expand your professional network and acquire experience in an area of interest. In this workshop, you will learn more about summer research, the benefits of participation, and effective search strategies, including how to find and apply for opportunities.

Translation & Interpretation Workshop Series: Workshop III with Dr. Kelly Washbourne (Spanish)

MSU has organized a series of three workshops in FS20 and a MSU Faculty Roundtable in SS21 on the
translation & interpreting field. Each workshop includes a language neutral section and a section with a
target language (Japanese, French, or Spanish). All are welcome to attend the language neutral portion of
each workshop. Each workshop will be three hours long (1.5 hours for non-language specific audiences
and 1.5 hours for target language audiences). The non-language specific workshop will be organized
around four key issues: (1) Navigating the paths to becoming a professional; (2) Scoping the field and its
future; (3) Learning strategies and methodologies for translation and interpretation; and (4) Identifying
resources for the profession. The language specific workshop will be a hands-on workshop focusing
mainly on strategies and methodologies for translation and interpretation.
