Featuring Dr. Ridley

Dr. Ridley will reflect on the interconnections and long history of jazz music and protest. In particular, he will examine the many connections between jazz and protest during the Civil Rights movement, and will talk about his collaborations with musicians committed to African American freedom and American democracy. Dr. Ridley will also discuss his role as an educator and the benefits of jazz education to the arts and American society.

Please join us for the Commemoration of the First MSU MLK Assassination Protest March from the Kellogg Center to Beaumont Tower, led by Dr. Robert L. Green, Wednesday, April 4th at 2:30. Dr. Green led the first MLK march the day after the assassination of Dr. King at MSU 50 years ago.  Dr. Green was also the Dean of the College of Urban Ed.

One of the defining and intractable issues in contemporary literature of the Global South, African, South Asian, and Postcolonial in general, is dislocated people seeking refuge across national boundaries. This Symposium is a reflection on the different states and cycles of displacement, assimilation, and return, and of the disruptions and transformations of State institutions and structures that mediate these transitions in politics and culture.

The Third Thursday Speaker Series is a monthly lecture series that is sponsored by the College of Arts & Letters Excel Network and the Graphic Design Program in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design. This series offers students industry connections, alumni networking opportunities, and insights into a variety of industries and disciplines presented by working professionals who lead design and creativity efforts in organizations such as design firms, advertising agencies, nonprofits, and Fortune 500 companies. Speakers who are selected have a variety of experiences including graphic design, writing, user experience, brand strategy, creative technology, and digital media.
